Challenge
Upon completion of a maturity assessment, Bureau of Meteorology management realised there was a need to modernise technical delivery. This included both tooling and a process uplift. A goal of the project was to transform the bureau’s IT from old ways of working into a modern DevOps enterprise.
Approach
I started the project by conducting a maturity assessment and gap analysis on the bureau’s current state. From there MH Solutions provided recommendations that included both immediate and long-term action items. The approach was to start establishing cross-functional teams and two areas (digital + geo spatial) were chosen for a pilot. MH Solutions started closing gaps in technical area by increasing capability in test automation and continuous delivery. Resources were provided to both perform the work and train the Bureau’s personnel into DevOps practices.
Outcomes and Benefits
- Major capability uplift in Agile/DevOps achieved
- Significant improvement in cycle time, reduced from 12 months to six weeks
