Companies tend to be allergic to conflict, particularly companies that have been in operation for a
long time. Being averse to conflict is understandable. Conflict is dangerous; it can damage damage
relationships and it can threaten friendships, but conflict is also the primary engine of clarity,
creativity and innovation.
Facilitative Leadership is having the capability of influencing the organisation to face its problems
and to live into its opportunities by using conversational intelligence.
This 2 day workshop sets the stage by giving participants the introductory theory and practical experiences to Facilitative Leadership.
Outcomes include:
– Introduction to conversational intelligence (Fear based dialog vs Purpose based dialog, key conversations from values to opportunities)
– Experience with using the basic tools (Integral quadrant and levels, somatic triggers and reframing)

There are several elements that make for excellent facilitation sessions like structure, process,
environment and clarity. As much as these are essential there is one skill that is often overlooked:
being ‘present’. The manner or way in which a facilitator shows up in a session is intricately linked to
the success or failure the participants will experience.
Being ‘present’ is challenging in everyday life and we can only imagine what adding additional people
into the mix with different perspectives, emotions and reactions will do.
Ultimately our capacity to hold the space and safely navigate through difficult conversations is one
of the biggest challenges we face as facilitators, managers, teachers, etc. To what extent are you
capable of holding space for a group? Do you have a tendency to avoid conflict? Are you capable of
truly taking every participants perspective? Do you or others constantly dominate conversations?
These are some of the questions that form the basis of our intention for this workshop which is: to
introduce and provide you with the means to build your facilitation and conversational skills using
the following elements:

  • Perspective taking capacities
  • Ability to recognize and work with shadows
  • Understanding of how power plays into facilitation
  • Somatic acuity of self and others
  • Capacity to put conflict in service of the group

As Diane Musho Hamilton put it: “The simple, self-evident truth is that, however difficult, conflict is intrinsic to our human experience—in other words, it isn’t going away.”

By developing these skills you will feel more complete and have more clarity when engaging in relationships. You will also see a positive shift in how people interact with you.

Integral facilitation skills go beyond tips, tricks, process and tools. Tips, tricks, processes and tools may be helpful in coming to terms within a group in a limited time-frame, they are however limited in the depth in which underlying conflicts and conversations happen. In other words, people are attracted to the structures and tools that will allow them to deal with conflicts rapidly, trying to avoid or get rid of them, but of course, this never truly happens. That is why so many people experience growing frustration in corporations, organizations, groups and families.
